MBCT combines meditation and cognitive therapy which can help us develop greater wellbeing and manage stress. Mindfulness is a natural state of being that we can develop and strengthen through practice. Please note that the session will be held in a lotus Belle Tent in the garden. There will be a wood burner to keep us snug when we need it, and out door space that we can use too. Parking is limited so lift shares encouraged if possible.
Sasha has been practising meditation for about 30 years and qualified as an MBCT teacher from Sussex Mindfulness Centre in 2020. I am a registered British Association of Mindfulness Based Approaches (BAMBA) MBCT teacher.

MBCT is a practical and friendly course where you are encouraged to develop a kind attitude to experience. You will learn different Mindfulness exercises and have opportunities to explore your meditation experiences. Mindfulness helps us develop greater awareness of thoughts, emotions and experiences, which can help us relate to life and stress in ways that can bring more ease and happiness. Mindfulness is a field that has been growing over the last 40 years and there is substantial evidence to show that MBCT can improve wellbeing. MBCT is recommended by NICE guidelines for prevention of depression relapse.
Classes run over 8 weeks and are two hours long. There is also a precourse introductory session. Everyone is encouraged to commit to attending all sessions, and to participate in as much they wish to.
Alongside classes you are encouraged to engage in home practice, about 20-45 minutes a day. Home practice can really enhance and embed learning.
After booking you will be sent a questionnaire to complete. Generally MBCT is not recommended for those in the midst of unsettling life events.

Mindfulness is a natural way of being that we can experience when deeply absorbed in the present moment. Using our voice and singing mantras offers a way to drop into mindfulness and develop mindfulness through our voice.
An attitude of acceptance and kindness supports us to be open to experience in the here and now. One interpretation of mindfulness is ‘Present Heart’. Singing mantras can help us connect with our heart and develop a sense of connection to others in the group.
You do not need any particular previous experience to attend, just an open mind. Mantras are easy to learn and are universally accessible. You’ll be introduced to the different deities, like Tara and Shiva, that can help us bring positive qualities to mind that support mindfulness such as love, compassion and transformation.
Over the last 40 years there has been a growing body of research showing how mindfulness can increase wellbeing. There is also more recent research showing how singing mantras can reduce stress levels.
Sasha has practised chanting and meditation most of her adult life and is a registered Mindfulness Based Cognitive Teacher. She has been offering Mantra and Meditation workshops for the last few years with Evolution Arts (at Brighton Buddhist Centre), The Yoga Garden and Bodhi Tree Brighton.
Previous participants have said: “I am leaving this feeling lighter and happier,” “Beautifully nurturing experience,” “The beautiful chants really touched my heart." “So nice to chant and fill the space with beautiful sound. It transported me to a timeless, spacious place.

Mindfulness is a natural way of being, that we might experience when aware and deeply absorbed in the present moment, for example singing, being in nature, listening to music, being creative or playing sport. Mantra & meditation offer us ways to develop mindfulness through connection with our hearts and our mind. Singing mantras can quiet the chatter of our busy minds and bring us more into stillness and spaciousness.
Singing mantras and meditation can ‘water the seeds' of heart qualities such as love, compassion, kindness and joy and help us to be more present in the here and now. In singing a mantra to Green Tara we can connect with her compassion and in singing the Peace Prayer we can radiate the wish for all beings to be happy.
As mantras are repetitive they are easily learnt. Each mantra will be introduced with a short explanation and will be accompanied by the harmonium. The workshop includes a guided meditation. You are welcome to attend, whatever your experience!
Your tutor: Sasha shares her practice of chanting Buddhist mantras she has learnt over the past 20 years, as well as some that she has composed herself. She is a qualified Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy teacher and completed a Meditation Teacher Training with Martin Aylward in 2021.

Loving Kindness practice through Mantra and Meditation
Day retreat with Sasha
Sunday 22nd May 2022 10am-4pm
At Community Base, Brighton, hosted by Bodhi Tree Brighton Click here to book
Metta is a Pali word that can be translated as Loving Kindness or friendliness and is an important practice in all Buddhist traditions. It is a beautiful practice of developing unconditional love and kindness towards ourselves and others.
“We all have the seeds of love in us. We can develop this wonderful source of energy, nurturing the unconditional love that does not expect anything in return.” Thich Nhat Hahn
During this retreat you will be invited to cultivate an attitude of Loving Kindness in the practice of singing mantras and meditation. Mindfulness and positive heart qualities, such as compassion, kindness and joy can naturally arise. In singing a mantra to Green Tara we can connect with her loving attention and devotion to people across the world, with the Medicine Buddha we can wish those in pain be free from suffering, with Avalokiteshvara we can embrace the wisdom of the heart and in singing the Peace Prayer we can radiate the wish for all beings to be happy, free and in peace. For more on mantras see
Singing mantras can naturally give rise to a meditative state that is centred in the heart and body. It can quiet the chatter of our busy minds and bring us more into stillness and spaciousness. We can rest in the silence that follows - sound and silent meditation flow and support each other.
Mantra and meditation practice encourages us to hold ourselves in loving-kindness rather than self-judgement, and to open and relax into ourselves in the present moment.
Sharon Salzberg writes: “Metta is the ability to embrace all parts of ourselves, as well as all parts of the world. Practising metta illuminates our inner integrity because it relieves us of the need to deny different aspects of ourselves”.
During this retreat we will begin with a short warm up for the body and voice. There will be two sessions, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. In each we will sing mantras, followed by quiet periods of resting in our experience, each session will close with a guided meditation.
Sasha will introduce each mantra with a short explanation. Mantras will be accompanied by the harmonium.
You are welcome to attend whatever your meditation or singing experience!
Sasha shares her practice of chanting Buddhist mantras she has learnt over the past 20 years, including some that she has composed. As mantras are repetitive, they are easily learnt.
Sasha was first taught meditation as a child by her mother, and attended her first meditation retreat 25 years ago at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery. Sasha values the richness of different meditation teachings and has attended retreats in a number of different Buddhist traditions. Sasha is currently training as a teacher in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and completed a Meditation Teacher Training with Martin Aylward in 2021.
This is Sasha’s second Mantra and Meditation day retreat with Bodhi Tree Brighton. If you have any questions feel free to email Sasha at
